Hi! How are you? It's fine there in the Netherlands…? Tell us please about your first impressions concerning living in Europe…

SHRAPNEL, Well, my first impressions were that it was a fucking big place with a bloody lot of Headbangers. We arrived in London last April and then pretty much went straight on tour with Immolation for 22 days , so what I first saw was how wide spread the Metal scene here is. We played 10 different countries, so I really got to see a great cross section of the metalheads . Back in Australia there is a really killer underground scene, very diehard, but it is unfortunately small. Here its just so much bigger. I'd never thought I'd see the day at a festival there is 20,000 plus metalheads, 10,000 wearing demin battlejackets!!!! Killer . We now live in Holland which has been really great, Definitely a cool place to live.

I suppose the main reason to settle down in Europe is that playing on the most important metal festivals is much more easier for you now…? Is there anything you miss, being far away from home now?

SHRAPNEL, We had played pretty much all there is to play back home. We wanted to see what it was like over here. You're right , it is a lot easy and cheaper to live here as a band than to fly back and forth. Well in reality its just not an option, Money is hard to come by at the best of times.......so it was either, fly over for one tour & maybe a couple of shows here or there, or set ourselves up here full time. We've been able to play a fucking lot which is great. I've played more shows in the last year than I have in the last 6 years!!! Haha But having said that I do miss many things about Australia, there's a different attitude / lifestyle which I really love , A lot of people that I miss and a lot of hot v8 's .

You have a new drummer . Could you please introduce to us your new band member? How did it actually come to this change in the line-up?

SHRAPNEL, We had a lot of problems with our other drummer ,so after the festivals last year we replaced him with someone that we were more musically and personally compatible with. His name is Mersus, he's a German bloke who stands around 6 foot or 7.......he's a fuckin` big cunt!!

Your new album "Cold Steel…For An Iron Age" is a really damn good peace of work. Killer music, brilliant sound and more variety in the vocals. My personal faves are "Black City" and "Witch Hunter". How do you think about the album, what are your faves?

SHRAPNEL, I'm very happy with 'Cold Steel'. I think that the song writing is progressing a lot and on the album you can tell. We had learnt a lot from the 'Phoenix' album , particularly in regards to sound. We knew what we wanted , and more importantly what we didn't want . We were after a real feel , very live , Raw sounding album, and I think we achieved that. I too love "Black City" but I think that "Sons of Perdition" is my favourite. It is a great song to play live, a killer feel .

I didn't get any texts with my promo copy, so maybe you could comment on them?

DESTROYER 666 - Cold Steel.... SHRAPNEL, Well KK writes pretty much all the lyrics so I'd have to let him speak about that.

In which countries are you going to present your new album live?

SHRAPNEL, We are playing a few shows around the place but our big conquest will be in November this year when we go on tour with Behemoth and Diabolic for 40 shows. We'll be pretty much be covering most of Europe.

As you may know, the TWIERDZA magazine gives also a special attention to the Eastern European metal scene. Which bands and artists from the Eastern European countries do you know and like…? (I'd bet the first name to be mentioned is VADER… ;-) )

SHRAPNEL, there a some bands i like from those areas Masters Hammer is fucking great stuff, Root are also great stuff but my absolute favourite is KAT from Poland. Their album METAL and HELL is a all time classic . If you don't like that album you can fuck off in my opinion. Its just so dam fucking metal!!

I don't think you have too much free time know, but when you have, what new albums are you listening to at present?

SHRAPNEL, I've been listening to the new Absu album Tara, well its not that new but it is bloody ripping. The new Manowar single is pretty cool too, The latest Root album is interesting but i have been blasting one of there early releases 'the BOOk'. Apart from that i listen to a lot of early stuff....Priest , Venom, Slayer, Infernal Majesty, Order from Chaos,. The classic albums never leave my stereo for long !!

Are there some interview questions that really get you sick….?

Shrapnel, Nahh

Well, that's all for me. Thanx for taking the time for the interview and best luck with DESTRÖYER 666 !

Cheers for the interview mate,.................. Keep the spirit alive!!!! SHRAPNEL.
